Class Descriptions
Gentle Yoga
What exactly do we mean by “Gentle”? Yoga or asana is the same in every yoga class; the primary distinguishing factor is how long you hold the pose, how many poses are performed in a session and the difficulty of the poses. Gentle yoga classes are intended to relax you, stretch and introduce you gently to the magic of yoga. This is an excellent class for beginners, seniors and individuals recovering from injury or trauma.
OM1, OM2, and OM3 (known as Vinyasana Yoga)
Vinyasana Yoga is a series of Hatha yoga postures practiced in a flow style emphasizing the use of the breath to facilitate the movement from one posture to the next. The flow of poses varies depending on the format chosen by the instructor. This continuous style builds core strength, coordination, and flexibility.
Power Yoga
Power Yoga is a general term used in the west to describe a vigorous, fitness-based approach to Vinyasana yoga. Most Power Yoga classes are modeled on the Ashtanga style of practice. The term Power Yoga came into common usage in the mid 1990s, when several yoga teachers were looking for a way to make Ashtanga Yoga more accessible to a western audience. Unlike Ashtanga, Power Yoga does not follow a set series of poses. Therefore, any Power Yoga class can vary widely from the next. What they have in common is an emphasis on strength and flexibility.
Circuit Yoga
Circuit Yoga is a new concept for 3 Om Yoga. This new class combines old school practice with a new school twist. The class will begin with traditional vinyasana flow for warmup, then will move to a 'circuit' of several poses. Students will move through a series of poses holding each for increasing lengths of time on subsequent rounds. This approach will help to build strength, increase stamina and sharpen mental focus.
Restorative Yoga
Restorative yoga is a practice designed to recuperate the mind and body. Many of the poses are done with the use of supportive props. This is a much cooler practice, with the focus on bringing space into the mind and body by offering support. You will leave this class feeling calm and relieved of stress. It is an important balance to a more active asana practice, and should be practiced at least once a week. This is also a great practice for those dealing with injury, strain, or emotional distress.
