We make seasonal changes to our schedule of classes to support the growth of practice here in the studio. Yoga is a large, comprehensive philosphy that contains innumerable benefits for your life. There is much to explore in this practice, and we will continue to offer classes that will support your growth in any way we can. We are always open to your requests.
Class Descriptions
*** Highlights "beginner friendly" classes
New Student Orientation
This is a one hour private class offered by one of our instructors. This session will consist of an interview where we will discuss the personal (and present) circumstances of your life in mind, body, and spirit; and also do some active practice. We will discuss how the comprehensive practice of yoga can uplift your personal life experience in many layers. We will create a plan for your first week of practice following this session. New student orientations are designed for those wanting to approach yoga as a way to ignite positive change in their physical and spiritual body.
Open
This class is an all levels practice. It is open to level 1 beginner students, level 3 advanced practitioner, and everyone in between. Poses will be modified to make them more or less challenging, depending on your level of practice. If you have at least 10 yoga classes under your belt, this class is for you. We have created open level classes in an effort to decrease any "segregation" of classes by levels. We want all of our students to be able to practice together.
Tranquil Yoga
A fitting term for our gentle yoga classes. This is a gentler, slower paced practice; which makes it more accessible to people of all sizes, ages, and fitness levels. Tranquil yoga is a practice that allows for the removal of the fears and challenges of doing yoga, while assisting with stress reduction and weight management.
Yoga Detox
Create a toned physique with a focus on strength building asana. This is a fiery practice creating: a detoxifying sweat, cardiovascular endurance, and muscular strength and flexibility. The element of fire creates heat and internal purification.
Restorative Yoga
A class also dubbed as "yoga spa". Restorative yoga is a necessary balance to an active asana practice, and healing practice to those injured, recovering, or coping with grief or stress. Poses are supported with props, and the work of the student is with the breath and meditation as the pose "does the work for you." Relaxing music, aromatherapy, and massage are also implemented in this class. This practice will teach you to relax completely, and you will leave feeling restored and a little bit taller.
Family Yoga
We are aware that yoga can be less available for families with young children as daycare might be an issue. So we have developed a class for families. This class will offer traditional yoga, and play for children. This can be a time for moms and dads to spend practicing together, allowing the children the freedom to be on or off the mat. This is a great way to take care of yourself while setting an example for your children and exposing them to new schools of thought. Other ideas for this class are to bring parents or siblings. All are welcome to attend! Children 4 and under are free.
Om Natal pre/post
Pre-natal yoga can help you cope with your changing body/emotions, prepare for birth, teach breathing techniques to help you cope with labor, and make you feel more connected to your baby.
Post-natal yoga helps your mind/body recover from the birthing process.
Did you know that if you were active before your pregnancy (and as long as you are experiencing a healthy pregnancy) then our open level classes would still be appropriate for you during your first and second trimester? Talk to your teacher or phone the studio if you have any questions.
**We have two birth doulas on staff. Please email or call the studio for more information.
Sanga
Sakskrit for "community," our Sanga classes are available to create a more social atmosphere at the studio. Check the workshops page for various Sanga events that accompany this class, including: movie nights, potlucks, Kirtan, the Parker Consciousness Group meetings, and more.
Dharma Mittra
Since 1958, Dharma Mittra has immersed himself in intense study as a full-time Brahmacharya in the eight limbs of Yoga. He is the creator of the Shiva Namsakara Vinyasa and creator of the master yoga chart of 908 postures. These classes are taught based on his philosophies, by one of his disciples (who has one of the most contagious laughs we have ever heard, so come by for a good time).
Energy Balance
An active class that will balance the flow of energy in your spirit. There will be equal parts of asana (posture) and pranayama (breath technique). All levels are invited to attend. This class is an "experiential" class that will balance the energetic experience of the body: transforming chaos into serenity. If you are interested in expanding your yoga practice with new experiences, then this class is for you!
Beginners
An introductory class for students who are brand new to yoga. This class will break down fundamentals of the asana (posture) practice and help break down barriers that may create fear of the practice in new students.
Asana/Meditation
Come practice with studio owner Renee as she leads you through an easy-to-follow dynamic class designed to nurture spirituality, uplift your emotional health and boost energy levels.
The first hour includes yoga instruction in breath, conscious postures and movement for developing body awareness, strength and inner space. You are encouraged to listen to your body and respect its wisdom as you let go of tension, naturally flowing with the breath.
A ½ hour of meditation completes the class, leaving you with the sensation of a calm mind, fuller breath, and an energized body. Over just a few weeks, your muscles will become more toned and flexible, your body less stressed, with an overall sense of well being.
**This class will be starting a 12 week, comprehensive course beginning on Sept. 4th. Packages may be purchased, or you can drop in at any time for $20. Please visit the workshops page and read the description under the "Parker Consciousness Group."
